Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 Movie Review

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2 is the final adventure in the Harry Potter film series, stars by Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint and Emma Watson. It’s the first Harry Potter film to be released in both 3D and 2D. This 2 hrs and 10 mins film was directed by David Yates.

After 10 years of journey, seven books, eight movie and billions of dollars profit, the boy who lived finally comes to a satisfying and awesome finale that fully justified the decision on splitting J.K. Rowling’s final and seventh book into two parts.

The spell is cast; the much anticipated movie series finally comes to an end.
The film does not disappoint all the Potter fans but surpasses all the expectations. It brings narrative and emotional closure by finally delivering the grand confrontation between the good and the evil forces of the wizarding world.

It opens by showcasing dementors hovering around Hogwarts. The 3D works well on enhancing this particular scene. Our first meeting with the trio is at the safe house near Dolby’s grave, where Harry makes a deal with Griphook to get into the vault of Bellatrix Lestrange to find a “hocrux” an object that contains a piece of Voldemort’s soul (Ralph Fiennes) that ensures him of being immortal.
Bellatrix Lestrange (Helen Bonham Carter) mimicking Emma Watsons’s awkward physicality provides comic reliefs.

Professor Snape (Allan Rickman) is a richer character this time. The Prince’s Tale was done better than I expected it to be. It brought chills to my skin and tears to my eyes throughout the whole thing, as his grievous back stories have been told while Harry looks into “pensive”. I loved how Alan delivered the line “Look at me! You have you mother’s eyes” before he died.

I was overwhelmed with emotion when I saw Fred’s body lying in the Great Hall, as well as Lupin and Tonks lying next to each other all dead. It got me teary eyes again.

The final wand duel between Harry and Voldemort has its distinct stages that reveal final layers of information.

The epilogue of 19 years later came out better in the movie than the book. Seeing the characters “aged” added a light touch at the end and came off much better when you could see the characters instead of just imagining them. It’s a grand and fitting conclusion to this long and enthralling adventure of the characters that we’ve all, at least a little bit, grown up.

It is not often that we can watch a movie series over 10 years featuring the same child stars as they grow into adults. This phenomenon gives Deathly Hallows 2 a particular poignancy.

I just can’t help but to notice that there’s no “The End” after the final scene to say that it is officially over. I guess it’s appropriate that there’s no “The End” because Harry Potter will live on in the hearts and minds of the millions Harry Potter fans forever.

So long, Harry. It’s been magic. “You’ll stay with me.” “Always!” “Until the end.”
(Hah! I’ve always love that lines between Harry and his mother Lily. I always thought it holds a deeper meaning.)

I haven’t watched the movie myself this article was written by Ms. Myra Macabale.
